Voice memo to text: read back what you dictated
Upload a memo from your phone, or record one in your browser, and get it as text in minutes, in 99 languages.

Turning a voice memo to text takes a minute and saves the twenty you'd spend listening back. Upload a recording from your phone, or hit record in voxnoto, and the words come back as text you can search, edit and paste anywhere.
How to turn a voice memo into text
Get the memo out of your phone
Share it from Voice Memos or your recorder app, or save it to Files.
Upload it to voxnoto
Drag the file in on a computer, or pick it in the browser on your phone.
Read the text
The transcript is ready in a few minutes. Copy it, export it or translate it.
Two ways to do it
Upload a memo you already recorded. iPhone Voice Memos, the Android recorder, any app you use, the file will be M4A, MP3 or WAV, and all of them work. Share it to Files or drag it in from your computer.
Record straight into voxnoto. Open the site in your phone's browser, tap Record and talk. Nothing to install, and the transcript starts as soon as you stop.
What people dictate
Thoughts on the move. Walking, driving, between meetings. Talking is three times faster than typing, and the memo is only useful if you can read it later.
Notes after a conversation. Thirty seconds recorded in the corridor after a client meeting beats a page of notes written an hour later.
Drafts. Emails, briefs and posts spoken aloud and then edited. Most people write a better first draft by talking than by staring at a cursor.
What you get back
The text. Everything you said, punctuated and paragraphed, not one long block.
A summary. For a long memo, the points you made without the thinking-out-loud around them.
A translation. Dictate in one language, read it in another, 99 languages in, translation out.
Search across memos. Fifty recordings in your phone are unsearchable. Fifty transcripts are one search box away.

Dictating so it transcribes well
- Say the topic in the first sentence. It becomes the title you'll recognise in a list.
- Hold the phone 20-30 cm away, not at your lips.
- Outdoors, cup a hand around the mic against wind, wind ruins more memos than traffic does.
- Say "new paragraph" or pause deliberately between ideas; the text comes back with structure instead of one block.
- Spell unusual names and terms once, then fix them in the transcript.
